The Interlibrary Loan service (ILL) allows current Purdue University Northwest faculty, staff, and students to borrow materials not owned by our library. ILL is a free service for PNW faculty, students, and staff. There are no fees for this library service. However, some hard to locate items and foreign language materials may cost. These charges generally vary from $15 to $30 to obtain the loan or article. If there are any charges, faculty and students will be contacted by the interlibrary loan staff for your approval to proceed with the request.
Interlibrary loans and articles are submitted using ILLiad (InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database). ILLiad enables users to place, track, and keep a history of interlibrary loan requests from a personal online account. All transactions, including renewals, are done online. To use ILLiad, you will need to register to set up an account. ILLiad registration is restricted to current PNW Northwest students, faculty, and staff.
Interlibrary Loan Requests
Books are generally delivered within 7 days and articles are generally received within a few days. However, it can take longer if the library material being requested is not widely available for circulation.
Lending libraries determine the loan period and any conditions regarding the use of their materials. Restrictions such as “no renewal” or “library use only” will be observed. Interlibrary loan periods are generally from 2 to 6 weeks. Borrowed materials must be returned by the due date to the Public Services Desk. Articles are yours to keep.
Renewals will be granted only at the lender’s discretion. Renewal requests must be made prior to the due date. If the lender denies a renewal request, the book will be recalled.
Overdue or Recalled Library Materials
Overdue or recalled materials are due in the Library within five days from date of patron notification. Patrons will be blocked from using our interlibrary loan services until the overdue library material is returned to the Public Services Desk.
Damaged and Lost Borrowed Library Material
Patrons are solely responsible for the safe return of borrowed items and financially responsible for any damage or loss of such materials while in their possession. The lending libraries bill for the replacement of the library material plus a non-refundable processing fee per item.
