Happy New Year! We’ve reached the mid-point of the 2018-19 academic school year and a new milestone for Purdue Northwest. December’s commencement included 806 candidates including the first ever doctoral degrees awarded at PNW! Congratulations to all of our Fall 2018 graduates!
The fall semester also saw the groundbreaking of the Bioscience Innovation Building (BIB). This building is being constructed on the south side of the Student Union Library building, creating a magnificent new green-space! Situated just inside the south entrance of the 173rd Street North parking lot entrance, BIB is a STEM-centered facility offering new collaborative learning spaces, laboratory classrooms, and research facilities for biological sciences and nursing programs. Construction is progressing on schedule with completion due Summer 2020. You can follow live on the online construction camera on the BIB website.
We were very busy in the library this fall with multiple events throughout the semester including such delights as “Once upon an afternoon dreary… Celebrating Edgar Allan Poe”, “Mayan Processions’ Winnie Godfrey Walk ‘n’ Talk”, and “Celebrating Frankenstein’s 200th Anniversary.” I hope you were able to enjoy some of these activities. Watch for our spring events throughout the semester!
Finally, we are especially proud of our University Archives and Special Collections. The first of our ongoing digitization projects has been completed. As was reported in October University Archives LibGuide in collaboration with the Internet Archive, the Student Newspaper Collection is now available online. We have almost 1100 documents spanning 75 years of PNW history available for your discovery! Our digitization efforts continue with historic course catalogs and literary magazines in the pipeline. Watch for announcements about these projects!
We are excited you are here. As you continue your PNW journey, we hope you explore the many awesome services available in the library. Stop in and tell the Public Service Staff the Vice Chancellor sent you and get a free treat (while supplies last)! See you in the Stacks!
